So I have to tell you, I love this session for many reasons. #1… This was the first evening the weather chose to cooperate in over a week, so the warm sun was a welcomed treat. #2… This couple was so funny, they had me laughing the entire session. And #3… This session made me love maternity photographs!

I have to be honest, I have never been pulled toward photographing pregnant mothers before and I never knew why until tonight. I am not a “director.” I do not enjoy telling people where to place their hands, how to tilt their head, which way to bend their legs… I am a photographer who strives to capture you as you are, in the moment. This is why I love to photograph young children so much, I enjoy catching those candid expressions that will make you smile for years to come. A true image captured of little ones and their ever changing personalities.

That being said, tonight I have changed my mind. Maternity photos have their own special place in capturing “the moment” as well. Although it feels like an eternity when you’re pregnant, the time really is so short. Trust me, I did it 3 times and every time I thought that baby was never going to come out, but they did, and then just like that, you watch them get on that school bus and you wonder where the time went?! So many mothers never have the opportunity to really celebrate the amazing thing their bodies are creating and caring for during those 9 months. Most of us are exhausted and really don’t feel like getting our picture taken. Well I am here to say that before you know it, that baby will be here and you’ll look back and wish you had a few special images to remind you of that feeling of carrying a precious life inside of you. It’s a pretty amazing thing when you stop and think about it… celebrate it!

During this session, Mrs. C truly glowed! Although in the final stretch of her pregnancy, you can see just how beautiful she looks and I hope someday she will look back on these photos and remember what an amazing accomplishment it is to go through pregnancy.
