Mini Me {Personal}

I was going to post this on my Facebook page today, but instead I thought I would share it on my blog. I wonder how many other moms have ever had a moment like this?

Today started like any other day for me. I woke up, got my two boys ready and on the bus for school, calmed my two year old daughter, Liv, down after her 3rd meltdown of the day, then started my regular routine of cleaning up, laundry, tea parties, and dress up. I’m always trying to squeeze in a few minutes of editing here and there. I know how much my daughter hates it when I get on the computer, but as a stay at home mom (who also happens to run her own business,) sometimes I just need to multitask in order to get anything done. Today was no different, and as soon as I spent some quality time with Liv, fed her a snack and got her set up with her dolls next to my computer, I began to start some work. She was so quiet next to me, really very content and I was on a roll editing a recent maternity session.  When I turned my head to check on her, this is what I saw…

I saw me! I saw her taking her toy princess camera and squatting down low to get the “perfect” photo of her baby. She was positioning each doll, laying the blanket out just so, and then taking her pictures as if she was the professional photographer…. I LOVED IT!

Since I started this business less than a year ago, I constantly question myself whether I made the right choice to branch out and do something for ME that I truly love. While this business does provide an income for me, it’s not enough to make a huge difference in our lives, but it is enough to make me feel good about myself. Just when I think that maybe I’m not setting a good example for my children by trying to divide both a career and a family, I realize that it’s okay. Finding the balance is never easy and some days are definitely harder than others. One thing is for sure… I am there for my family and especially my daughter. She is watching me and learning from me and if I can teach her anything, it’s to be a strong woman and go for your dreams, and who knows, maybe she will follow in her mother’s footsteps and have her passion for photography turn into a fantastic career as well. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see! Until then, remember, your kids watch EVERYTHING you do, the good, the bad and the ugly, so make the most of each day and set the example you want them to be!

If you have had troubles as a mom and also finding your own balance, I would love to hear about it. Feel free to share your comments below. We strong women need to stick together 🙂
